The Midwest Clean Diesel Leadership Group, which is comprised of 33 public-sector and private-industry organizations, is driven to help meet MCDI's ambitious goal of reducing emissions from one million diesel engines in the region by 2010. The unique, collaborative nature of the Leadership Group will open new pathways to diesel emission reduction projects across the region, and will create lasting programs to address diesel emissions for years to come.

Leadership Group Structure
The Leadership Group is co-chaired by U.S. EPA, Cummins Inc., Illinois EPA, and the American Lung Association of Illinois. Co-chairs are responsible for setting the general direction of the Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative as well as overseeing the activities of the group as a whole.
The Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative gets work done through the Clean Diesel Program Development Workgroup, which oversees two project-driven subcommittees and serves as a resource and liaison for clean diesel coalitions in each of the 6 states within EPA Region 5.
Clean Diesel Program Development Workgroup (Co-chaired by Cummins, Inc., and U.S. EPA)
The Clean Diesel Program Development Workgroup is designed to support clean diesel coalitions within each of the Region 5 states. These state-based coalitions will assess their individual needs, identify their goals and achievable activities and work together to address those goals. Coalition partners will determine the geographic areas to focus on in their state as well as the sectors of interest and the technology options that make sense for the specific areas. The groups then will work to develop funding opportunities to reduce the diesel emissions from the fleets within the identified sectors.

Request for applications out soon.- Ohio: http://www.epa.state.oh.us/oeef/html/schoolbus.html
All ARRA state allocation funds are administered through the existing school bus program. Outreach events are scheduled throughout the state.
- Awarded the first $754,413.69 in ARRA funds to eight school districts who submitted applications in March, 2009, and the remainder to applicants who submit in September 2009. (If there is any left over, it would carry forward to the March 2010 application cycle, but we think that is unlikely.)
- Raised the $100,000 cap on subgrantee awards. For the September 2009 cycle, they will now fund projects up to $300,000. Have asked the Ohio General Assembly for a legislative change to open the program to county-owned MR/DD buses, which are on the road year round. We have indications of interest from county programs that include about 400 buses. That proposed amendment has passed the Ohio House and is pending in the Ohio Senate. It is included in the state budget bill that must pass by June 30, so expect to know the status well before the September 1, 2009 application deadline for subgrantees.

The Clean Diesel Program Development Workgroup oversees the work of two project-driven subcommittees:
- The Non-Monetary Incentives and Outreach Subcommittee
(Leads: Anthony Maietta, U.S. EPA and Greg Langford, Langford, Inc.) - The Funding Development Subcommittee
(Leads: U.S. EPA and Bill Droessler, Minnesota Environmental Initiative)
Six State Clean Diesel Coalitions operate with the support of the Program Development Workgroup. In each state, a coalition of government, industry, and nonprofit organizations work together to address diesel pollution through direct actions, legislation, and innovative financing.
