Shift in the Type of Manufacturing Industries from 1920 to 1987

The percentage of employees (calculated from Bureau of Census, Census of Manufactures data) in various manufacturing industries in New Bedford shows the diversification of manufacturing from 1920 to 1987. During this time, the actual number of employees in manufacturing jobs decreased by about 50 percent, from 43,226 in 1920 to 20,100 in 1987.
