Global Change Impacts & Adaptation
Adaptation is any measure taken to reduce the vulnerability of ecosystems, infrastructure and people to the negative impacts of climate change. Through assessments of the exposure and sensitivity of natural and human systems to climate change, along with evaluation of each system’s adaptive capacity (i.e., its ability to adjust), appropriate adaptation strategies can be developed. These include combinations of management actions that minimize impacts and build greater adaptive capacity. We work with EPA partners, researchers, and stakeholders to develop and test methods that enable systematic evaluation of adaptation options targeted toward key natural and human system vulnerabilities. This collaboration helps to ensure that our methods are tailored to their management decisions.
