Global Change Impacts & Adaptation
Advancing Adaptation Theory
Climate change poses significant challenges to the EPA's ability to fulfill its mission, especially given the scale, complexity, and uncertainties associated with the problem. We are seeing novel and unpredictable effects on the environment from climate change. Thus there is a need for theoretical advancements in the form of concepts, models, methods and frameworks to improve the accuracy, feasibility, and effectiveness of global change impacts and adaptation efforts. Projects include innovative approaches for characterizing and communicating uncertainty; advancing conceptual theories of resilience; modeling and exploring the components of adaptive capacity; and creating adaptation planning frameworks.
