Global Change Impacts & Adaptation
More and more people in the U.S. and globally reside in urban areas, with nearly 80% of the U.S. population and 50% of the global population living in these complex environments. Managing and maintaining healthy and productive communities in the face of global stressors such as climate change requires a transdisciplinary and multi-governance approach that includes input from ecological, physical, social, and economic sciences and from practitioners at local to national scales. Our projects include impact assessments of climate change on urban sectors, framework development and indicator selection to assess urban climate resilience, and adaptation assessments for urban-water systems. These resources can help local land use managers understand and plan for global change and provide guiding principles for decision support to local governments under an uncertain future.
