Title: EPA-NIMHD Workshop: Charting a New Course in Environmental Health Disparities Research -- Session W1-06 at the 2012 Summit on the Science of Eliminating Health Disparities
Date: December 19, 2012
8:30 - 10:30 a.m. EST
Location: Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland
Room: Woodrow Wilson D
Purpose:

The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), in collaboration with EPA's National Center for Environmental Research (NCER), intends to establish new Centers of Excellence on Environment and Health Disparities Research. These interdisciplinary Centers will lead to new evidence-based strategies for alleviating system drivers of racial and socio-economic disparities in environmentally mediated health outcomes (environmental health) and access to health and sustainable environments. This workshop will cover lessons learned from the grantees awarded in the pilot phase and seek public comment on research topics and approaches for community engagement for consideration in the development and implementation of these Centers. Information will help to improve the design of the Centers and ensure utility and productivity, and overall value to the scientific community and the public health.
