The EPA Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) undergraduate fellowship program provides high-quality educational and professional training opportunities to participants.

The goal of the program is to assist Minority Academic Institutions in providing high quality education and professional training opportunities to students interested in pursuing environmental careers.

Eligible students will receive support for their junior and senior years of undergraduate study and for an internship at an EPA facility during the summer of their junior year. The fellowship provides up to $19,700 per academic year of support and $9,500 of support for a three-month summer internship.

  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States or its territories or possessions, or be lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
  • They must also attend a fully accredited four-year U.S.
  • Minority Academic Institution and have at least a 'B' average overall.
  • Applicants must be a sophmore to apply.

The fellows also participate in a 12 week long Summer Internship Program between the first and second years of the program. The internship offers them the opportunity to work at an EPA research laboratory or another EPA facility to enhance their undergraduate educational experience and to gain valuable professional training The internship program is administered by Consolidated Safety Services, Inc. (CSS), a woman-owned small business founded in 1988 that provides scientific program support, environmental safety and health, and transportation safety services under contract to EPA and other Federal agencies.
