Title: Low Temperature Combustion with Reduced PM and NOx Emissions, Achieved by n-Butanol in-Port Injected in an Omnivorous Diesel Engine

Although fuel efficient, diesel engines continue to contribute air pollutants in urban areas. Low Temperature Combustion (LTC) diesel engines reduce both NOx and soot emissions by over 50%. Georgia Southern University students are further innovating the LTC diesel engine to run on n-butanol and cottonseed oil – biofuels produced locally from sustainable sources.

Challenge Area(s): Agriculture, Energy
