What is urban?
The Urban Environmental Program defines “urban” as a city that has a population of 30,000 or above, based on U.S. Census data from 2000.
UEP Services:
- UEP Urban Program Managers
- Serve as community liaison and resource broker to EPA New
England services and resources, including technical resources,
expertise, and funding opportunities.
- Responsible for:
- Partnerships and coalition building
- Building community capacity and consensus
- Public awareness and education
- Environmental revitalization
- Improving public health
- Problem-solving
- Facilitation/conflict resolution
- Grant/project management
- Serve as community liaison and resource broker to EPA New
England services and resources, including technical resources,
expertise, and funding opportunities.
- Community Grant Program
- Run an annual competitive grant program to identify and fund eligible applicants to complete projects in target urban areas. In 2005 the UEP worked with nine other EPA programs to manage the “Healthy Communities Grant Program” which competitively awarded 23 grants valued at over $600,000 to qualified community projects across New England.
