Provide a Better Understanding of the Science Underlying Exposures to Endocrine Disruptors
Exposure occurs when a receptor (humans, wildlife, aquatic species, etc.) comes in direct contact with an EDC in the environment via inhalation, ingestion, and/or dermal contact. Two key questions identify exposure-related uncertainties in assessment of risk posed by EDCs:
- How and to what degree are human and wildlife populations exposed to EDCs?
- What are the major sources and environmental fates of EDCs?
Answers to these questions require unique tools that are not currently available. For that reason, NERL's EDC program is focused on developing and evaluating Methods for Characterizing EDC Exposures.
