Angela L. Batt

My research involves developing analytical methods to determine the occurrence of emerging contaminants in a variety of environmental matrices, including water, sediment, and biological material. I have developed a method to analyze over 60 human prescription pharmaceuticals in wastewater and surface water using liquid chromatography in combination with mass spectrometry, and we are planing to extend these methods to fish tissue as well. These methods are being applied to several national scale studies to asses the exposure of ecosystems to pharmaceuticals present in wastewater treatment plant discharges.
