NHEERL Scientist honored in the 2009 Nikon Small World Competition
Dr. Robert Zucker of NHEERL's Toxicity Assessment Division has been honored by having his photomicrograph ranked as one of the top 100 winning images in the 2009 Nikon Small World Competition. The competition's theme is "Recognizing Excellence in Photography through the Microscope". This recognition is a great honor as it is the oldest and most prestigious award in scientific photography. The photomicrograph is on mosquito larvae which use the same fluorescence and confocal principles that are used for studying thick kidneys in the long term growth project. Many of the specialized techniques in sample preparation that are used on the kidneys were developed on these mosquito larvae.
