GED Hosts Australian Ecosystem Services Specialist
Simone Maynard, an ecosystem services specialist from SEQ Catchments Ltd., Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, met with Gulf Ecology Division (GED) coastal assessment and services team members July 11-15, 2011, to discuss ecoservices programs in the United States and Australia. Simone also provided a seminar to GED staff on integrating ecosystem services into policy and planning in South East Queensland. SEQ Catchments works closely with the Queensland government to promote a balanced resource management approach to land development, infrastructure planning, and economic growth to support sustainable and healthy communities. They also provide technical advice in the areas of data collection, mapping, vegetation management, soil conservation, water quality and property management planning, project management, and community engagement.
