WED Ecologist Presents Invited Talk at INTECOL Gathering

Jim Wigington, an ecologist with the NHEERL Western Ecology Division's (WED's) Freshwater Ecology Branch, participated in the 10th International Congress of Ecology (INTECOL) in Brisbane, Australia, August 16-21, 2009. INTECOL meetings, which are held every 4 years, are major forums for the global community of ecological scientists and practitioners. This year's meeting had as its theme "Ecology in a Changing Climate, Two Hemispheres, One Globe." Ecologists from around the world explored how global climate change has impacted and will further impact ecosystems and their vital services to human communities. Presenters explored unique features of ecosystems in the southern and northern hemispheres but look for common elements in a search for solutions to this looming problem.

Dr. Wigington presented an invited talk entitled "Ecological Functions of Riparian Zones in Oregon Hydrological Landscapes" as part of a special symposium on Ecological Functions of Riparian Systems in Managed Landscapes. The feedback and interaction that occurred following his talk will serve to further strengthen the final version of the work produced.
