NHEERL Chemist To Speak at University of Nebraska at Omaha Alumna Centennial Lecture, November 9, 2009

Denise MacMillan has been invited by the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) to present the Chemistry Alumna Centennial Lecture on November 9, 2009. The official centennial celebration of the College of Arts and Sciences begins in September 2009, marking 100 years since the first students enrolled in UNO's first college. In the Centennial Speaker Series, lectures from distinguished alumni representing a number of disciplines will explore various perspectives on the future of the liberal arts mission.

Dr. MacMillan, who earned her undergraduate degree from UNO's College of Arts and Sciences in 1985, will speak about how her liberal arts education has proven an important asset during her career as a chemist. As a chemist working in NHEERL's multidisciplinary laboratories, Dr. MacMillan believes her experience at UNO helped prepare her to succeed in an environment where there are only a few chemists. The lecture series, which begins in September, will continue through March 2010.
