Updating the Comprehensive 1979 Sludge Treatment & Disposal Manual
Wastewater treatment plants produce residuals (as sludge) that must be managed, which represents more than 50% of the total cost of wastewater treatment. As Office of Water (OW), OIG, Congress, and state authorities have noted, utility companies need help selecting cost-effective solutions for sludge management.
Chapters in the current manual include:
- Design Approach;
- Wastewater Solids Production and Characterization;
- Thickening;
- Stabilization;
- Disinfection;
- Conditioning;
- Dewatering;
- Heat Drying;
- High Temperature Processes;
- Composting;
- Transportation;
- Storage;
- Sidestreams from Solids Treatment Processes;
- Utilization; and
- Disposal to Land.
