Abstract

Storm water is part of the natural hydrologic process. Human activities, especially those in an urban environment, cause significant changes in patterns of storm water flow from land into receiving waters. The undesirable effects of storm water runoff can be controlled by prudent management efforts, referred to as best management practices (BMPs).

The purpose of this report is to provide:

• Information on the most commonly used structural BMP options
• Design considerations
• Guidelines for monitoring, selection, and implementation
• Costs associated with BMPs in urban watersheds
