EPA’s National Risk Management Research Laboratory, in collaboration with the BirdCast Project and its partners, has created a technology transfer handbook. The handbook presents a case study showing how one bird migration monitoring and outreach program provides information that allows property managers and the public to assist migratory birds. The handbook is written primarily for community organizers, nonprofit groups, local government officials, and other decision makers who are interested in developing bird migration monitoring and outreach programs of their own. The handbook was developed for EPA’s Environmental Monitoring for Public Access and Community Tracking (EMPACT) program. The program takes advantage of new technologies that make it possible to provide environmental information to the public in near real-time.
