Executive Summary: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Risk Management Research Laboratory, Ground Water and Ecosystem Restoration Division (GWERD), is located in Ada, OK, and is the site of the Environmental Research Apprenticeship Program for Pre-Baccalaureate College Students (ERAP). This Request for Proposals (RFP) seeks proposals from eligible applicants under CFDA 66.511 to administer and operate an apprenticeship program for pre-baccalaureate college students under the tutelage of GWERD scientists. This program provides undergraduate students with year-round research opportunities that will allow students to relate hands-on research experience to formal academic studies. It also provides invaluable experience regarding the relevance of academic training to the conduct of research. Research experience will be gained through a mentoring relationship with a Senior GWERD scientist working in a fully operational federal research laboratory. The total number of student researcher opportunities will be limited by the number of GWERD mentors available each semester. This program provides direct benefit to the academic community and the general public by increasing both the effectiveness and pool of available environmental scientists for the future.

Anticipated Funding: $845,000 – One award. The agreement will be incrementally funded. The initial award will be for $169,000 for the first year and $169,000 each year for the next four years, contingent on the availability of funding and satisfactory performance by the recipient.

Eligible Applicants: Applicants listed under CFDA number 66.511 are eligible. Institutions of higher education and not-for-profit institutions located in the United States, and tribal, state, and local governments are eligible to apply.
