| EPA’s research into implementing the new Arsenic Rule is an integrated, multidisciplinary program. It focused on the development and evaluation of innovative methods and cost-effective technologies for improving the assessment and control of arsenic contamination.
In 2002, EPA initiated the Arsenic Removal Technology Demonstration Program to evaluate the performance, reliability, and cost of arsenic removal technologies and their effect on distribution systems. Two rounds of full-scale, commercially ready treatment technology demonstrations across the country provided states and water utility operators with important information about removing arsenic from their drinking water. |

| Arsenic removal demonstrations are conducted at selected public water facilities across the United States. The program was divided into two rounds of demonstrations: Round 1 included funding for 12 locations; Round 2 and Round 2a included funding for 27 locations and 10 locations respectively. |
