Summary of Past Progress

Prior to both the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and Executive Order (E.O.) 13423, agency progress in energy efficiency was measured against an FY 1990 baseline. Since energy performance is now measured against an FY 2003 baseline, all data tables and charts now reference FY 2003 as the baseline year. A summary of EPA’s progress in meeting its FY 2005 energy reduction requirements relative to the FY 1990 baseline is provided below, however is not updated past FY 2005.

Agencywide Energy Consumption and Intensity Data Tables (Compared to E.O. 13123 FY 1990 Baseline)
These tables compare EPA’s total Agencywide FY 2005 reportable energy consumption in British Thermal Units (Btu) and energy intensity (Btu per Gross Square Foot [GSF]) to the FY 1990 baseline figures, with and without green power purchases netted out.

Agencywide Projected Annual Energy Intensity, FY 1985-2010 (green power purchases netted out)
This line graph shows EPA's Agencywide energy intensity (Btu per GSF) for reporting laboratories from FY 1985 through FY 2005, and projections through FY 2010, compared to E.O. 13123 energy reduction goals.
