Breakdown of EPA's GHG Emissions

This bar chart illustrates the breakdown of EPA's GHG emissions base inventory and GHG emissions after taking green power purchases into account in fiscal years (FYs) 2003, 2007, and 2008.

In FY 2003, EPA’s GHG emissions base inventory totaled 139,007 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e).  Its GHG emissions inventory after taking green power purchases into account came to 124,186 MTCO2e.

In FY 2007, EPA’s GHG emissions base inventory totaled 125,023 MTCO2e.  Its GHG emissions inventory after taking green power purchases into account came to 39,182 MTCO2e.

In FY 2008, EPA’s GHG emissions base inventory totaled 122,732 MTCO2e.  Its GHG emissions inventory after taking green power purchases into account came to 37,932 MTCO2e.

Note: EPA elected to use FY 2003 as the base year for its GHG emissions inventory to align with the base year against which annual energy reduction requirements are outlined in Executive Order 13423 and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. EPA has not developed annual GHG emissions inventories for FY 2004-2006, indicated by the broken X-axis in this chart.
