The United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) is expanding a demonstration (pilot) project that provides laboratory instrumentation, training, proficiency testing (PT) studies and radioanalytical procedures and protocols to select state, local, and tribal government environmental radiological laboratories via assistance agreements. The focus of the demonstration project is to increase the radioanalytical capability and capacity of the selected laboratories; particularly in relation to the sample demand resulting from a nuclear or radiological Incident of National Significance (INS). The USEPA requires detector systems intended to be used for general purpose radioanalysis of a wide range of sample types, including water, soil, and 2” and 4” filter papers, at a fixed laboratory in Topeka, Kansas.
