About Preferences

This Preferences page lets you choose settings for AirData maps and charts. For example, the image size you select applies to all maps you produce after that.

In order to make your preference settings available to all maps and charts, AirData saves the settings in a temporary cookie in your browser. The settings stay in effect until you close your browser. Then the temporary cookie is deleted and your preference settings are lost. No information except AirData preferences is stored in the temporary cookie; your privacy is not compromised by AirData's use of a temporary cookie.

Image Type

How a map image is rendered in your browser.
Zoom (Java applet)   << Default
Fixed Size (GIF image)

A zoom-able image, which you may shrink to 25% or enlarge to 500% of original size, is rendered by a Java applet. This image type also displays "tool tips" that identify and describe elements of a map, such as a county name. Your browser must have Java enabled to use this option. Several hundred KB of data may be downloaded to display a complex map or chart.

A standard GIF image displays in all graphical browsers, its dimensions are fixed, and it has no interactive features. Image download size is generally 10 KB to 20 KB, and does not vary much depending on map complexity.
