EPA Performance and Accountability Reports

EPA's Performance and Accountability Reports describe to the President, Congress, and the public the Agency’s environmental program and financial performance over the course of a fiscal year. The reports also describe progress in addressing management issues. EPA’s annual Performance and Accountability Report satisfies a number of legislative reporting requirements, including those of the Government Performance and Results Act, Federal Managers’ Financial Integrity Act, and Inspector General Act Amendments of 1988.

EPA’s Performance and Accountability Reports have four main sections:

I. The Management's Discussion and Analysis section provides an overview of the full report. It summarizes the Agency's programmatic and financial performance and discusses accomplishments and challenges.

II. The Performance Results section discusses EPA's programmatic performance under the Agency’s strategic goals. It presents detailed results measured against the annual goals and measures and discusses progress toward long-term strategic objectives. This section also highlights some of the results achieved through EPA’s grants to states, tribes, and nongovernmental organizations.

III. The Financial Statements section contains EPA's financial statements and related Independent Auditor's Report, as well as other information on the Agency's financial management.

IV. The Other Accompanying Information section describes EPA's progress in strengthening management practices to protect human health and the environment more effectively and efficiently.
