Information Resources
Environmental Information
EPA's 2008 Report on the Environment describes current national environmental conditions and trends using existing data and indicators; identifies gaps and research needs; and discusses challenges in meeting these needs.
Envirofacts is a single point of access to select U.S. EPA environmental data bases with information about environmental activities that may affect air, water, and land anywhere in the United States.
Surf Your Watershed helps locate environmental information at the state and watershed-level.
Airtrends is EPA's annual report card on the status of air quality and air pollutant emissions.
National Water Quality Inventory Report to Congress (305(b) report) informs Congress and the public about general water quality conditions in the United States.
The web-based Environmental Justice Geographic Assessment Tool helps assess adverse health or environmental impacts, aggregate or cumulative impacts, unique exposure pathways, vulnerable or susceptible populations, lack of capacity to participate in decision making process, and other conditions related to environmental justice concerns.
Scorecard,
a project of the Environmental Defense Fund, provides customized, local
environmental information based on integration of environmental quality
and toxic chemical data from over 400 scientific and government data bases.
Planning and Priority Setting
EPA Strategic Plan lays out the Agency's long term goals, guides setting annual goals to meet along the way, and allows progress to be measured.
Watershed Protection: A Statewide Approach is a strategy for protecting and restoring aquatic ecosystems and protecting human health based on the premise that many water quality and ecosystem problems are best solved at the watershed level.
Green Communities Assistance Kit is a step-by-step guide for planning and implementing successful community-based environmental protection and sustainable community development.
Smart Growth provides public resources to help create communities that promote the sustainability of America's environment, economy, and quality of life.
Performance Based-Government
Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) requires federal agencies to set goals and objectives and the measures EPA will use to assess progress in meeting them.
The Performance Assessment and Rating Tool (PART) is used by the Office of Management and Budget to help identify a program's strengths and weaknesses to inform funding and management decisions. It consists of a series of analytic questions covering program purpose and design, performance measurement, evaluations, strategic planning, program management, and program results.
EPA's Evaluation Support Division's Evaluation of Environmental Programs website is a gateway to information about program evaluation within EPA as well as other evaluation resources.
