Technical Assistance Resources

EPA Environmental Planning for Small Communities
This program offers a complete one-stop introduction to a wide range of environmental issues and decisions that affect small to medium-sized communities. It offers communities the chance to judge their own needs and preferences, and to make informed decisions on their own.

Major sections cover:

USDA Rural Information Center
The Rural Information Center provides services for rural communities, local officials, organizations, businesses and rural citizens working to maintain the vitality of America's rural areas.

DOT Transportation/Air Quality Issues in Rural Areas
Several rural counties have exceeded the national standard for one or more air pollutants. The purpose of this study is to increase understanding of how many rural areas are facing this problem and to identify the main causes for their exceeding air quality standards. The study also focuses on transportation's contribution to the air quality problems in rural areas and how these areas are meeting certain Clean Air Act requirements related to motor vehicle emission sources.
