Chemical Manufacturing Sector
The chemical manufacturing sector covers the transformation of organic and inorganic raw materials by a chemical process and the formation of products. The sector is now classified under the 2007 North American Industry Classification System as 325.
The agricultural chemical, pesticide and fertilizer manufacturing sector comprises establishments primarily engaged in one or more of the following:- Manufacturing nitrogenous or phosphatic fertilizer materials;
- Manufacturing fertilizers from sewage or animal waste;
- Manufacturing nitrogenous or phosphatic materials and mixing with other ingredients into fertilizers;
- Mixing ingredients made elsewhere into fertilizers;
- Engaged in the formulation and preparation of agricultural and household pest control chemicals. The sector is now classified under the 2007 North American Industry Classification System as 3253.
The organic chemical manufacturing sector comprises establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing basic organic chemicals (except petrochemicals, industrial gases, and synthetic dyes and pigments). The sector is now classified under the 2007 North American Industry Classification System as 32519.
The inorganic chemical manufacturing sector comprises establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing basic inorganic chemicals (except industrial gases and synthetic dyes and pigments). The sector is now classified under the 2007 North American Industry Classification System as 32518.
