Overview of NEPA Process for Grant Applicants:
You have completed the Overview of NEPA Process for Grant Applicants module. Here's a brief summary of what you've learned.
NEPA requires EPA to assess the environmental effects of SAAP grants, including the proposed action and its alternatives.
EPA performs varying levels of review depending on the significance of predicted environmental impacts. The three basic levels of environmental analysis are:
- Categorical Exclusion (CATEX)
- Environmental Assessment (EA)
- Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
The steps of the environmental review process vary based on whether your project qualifies for a CATEX or requires an EA or EIS. As a grant applicant, you may be requested to provide EPA with information to be used in these analyses. EPA refers to the documentation you provide as the Environmental Information Document (EID).
