Categorical Exclusion:
When does a project qualify for a CATEX?

A proposed project qualifies for a CATEX if it:
- Fits within a category of actions eligible for a CATEX as identified at 40 C.F.R. Section 6.204 (a) AND
- Does not involve any extraordinary circumstances
To determine whether your project might qualify for a CATEX, review the list of categorically excluded actions set out in 40 C.F.R. Section 6.204 (a). Then consult with your regional EPA contact.
