There are a number of tools that are available to model emissions, as well as databases providing information on emission levels of air toxics throughout the U.S.
- National Emissions Inventory (NEI) provides county level inventory data for on-highway vehicles, nonroad sources, aircraft, commercial marine vessels, and locomotives.
- Emissions Modeling Clearinghouse includes data files and documentation for inventories used in the air quality modeling platform.
- SPECIATE is EPA’s repository of volatile organic gas and particulate matter (PM) speciation profiles of air pollution sources.
- MOVES is EPA’s current model for estimating emissions from cars, trucks, and motorcycles. It includes all air toxics in the NEI that are emitted by mobile sources.
- National Mobile Inventory Model (NMIM) is a modeling tool which produces county-level emission inventories for motor vehicles and nonroad equipment. The motor vehicle component is based on MOBILE6, which has been replaced by MOVES, but the nonroad equipment component remains the best available tool for developing toxics inventories for that sector.
