International Resources
Organizations across the world are showing interest in the use of EMS and how EMS are related to permitting and regulatory programs. The United States can learn from experiences abroad. The following resources provide international information related to EMS and regulatory programs.
- EPA's Gateway to International Best Practices and Innovations EMS Web page provides international information and resources related to the use and promotion of EMS.
- European Union's REMAS
is a 3-year project designed to examine EMS currently in place in business and industry across European Union Member States. REMAS will gather data from sites throughout Europe with the aim of documenting evidence to link the presence of an EMS to environmental performance. The findings of REMAS are of particular importance to EPA as we launch our EMS Strategy. - Exploring New Approaches in regulating industrial installations (ENAP) (PDF; 679 KB; 65pg, About PDF)
is a project that facilitates dialogue between governments and stakeholders across Europe in order to explore and share insights on innovative regulatory approaches. ENAP held a workshop jointly with REMAS in June 2003 to examine connections between EMS and the regulatory system.
