Ampelomyces quisqualis isolate M-10 was initially isolated from powdery mildew that had infected certain plants in Israel. For commercial use, producers grow the fungus Ampelomyces quisqualis isolate M-10 in a liquid nutrient mixture, and then collect and dry the spores. The spores are stored as a dry powder. They are mixed with water to reactivate them, and then the mixture is applied to crops.
Based on required toxicity tests, no risks to humans are expected from handling or eating food containing small amounts of Ampelomyces quisqualis isolate M-10. Applicators are instructed to use appropriate protective equipment, including a respirator to minimize their inhalation of dust or mist.
When used as directed, Ampelomyces quisqualis isolate M-10 presents no known risks to plants, beneficial insects, or other non-target organisms. However, it is not allowed to be applied directly to water or be used in ways that could contaminate water.
Ampelomyces quisqualis isolate M-10 was initially registered in 1994. As of February 2000, there was one registered pesticide end product using this active ingredient.
