Information provided for informational purposes only

Note: This information is provided for reference purposes only. Although the information provided here was accurate and current when first created, it is now outdated.

In a Federal Register Notice Published on 12/21/99 the Agency is soliciting input on the assessment of the potential for allergenicity of non-digestible proteins expressed as plant-pesticides. The specific case in question concerns the Cry9C insecticidal protein derived from Bacillus thuringiensis and expressed in field corn.

The Agency is seeking comments on an EPA background document that includes a discussion of the associated EPA Data Evaluation Records (DERs), and a series of questions regarding the use of amino acid homology, the brown Norway rat model, and other items regarding the assessment of potential allergenicity.  Links to the associated DERs are provided within the background document.

In addition, a bibliography of the active ingredient is provided with links to the associated DERs.

This issue will be the subject of a FIFRA Science Advisory Panel meeting in early February 2000.

The applicant, AgrEvo, was given the Background document for comment.  Their response is also provided as input for those seeking to comment.

Information on the process, format for commenting, and timing;  as well as information about access to the comments, is available in the FR Notice.

Some Attachments mentioned in the DERs, but not available electronically,  have been placed in the Docket (PF-867A)
