American Pest Management
(PESP Partner since March 1997)
American Pest Management is a mid-size structural pest control firm, located in Takoma Park, Maryland. American is committed to the use of IPM practices, which stress structural repair (e.g. caulking, screening) and habitat modification (e.g., sanitation) as first lines of defense in controlling structural pests. If further measures are required, traps and baits are preferred over sprays. The firm is one of a growing group of companies which are changing the paradigm from scheduled spray of floor/wall junctions to a more information-intensive IPM approach which includes monitoring for the presence of a wide range of urban pests, and then choosing exclusion and low-risk approaches to managing pest populations. American Pest Management holds the contract for pest management at the National Institutes of Health and other sensitive sites, for which traditional chemical sprays would not be feasible.
