City of Davis, CA
(PESP Partner since August 1997)
The City of Davis, California, Division of Parks and Opens Spaces (City of Davis) joined PESP as a Partner on August 15, 1997. The Parks and Open Space Division manages nearly 350 acres of urban landscape (175 acres of which is turf), over 250 acres of open space area, and over 20,000 public trees. The integrated pest management (IPM) Program was voluntarily established in 1989 by the Parks Division out of concern for the environment and the unique interrelationships that exist in public spaces. It published its pest management policies and practices in July 1991. The City of Davis has also published separate bulletins regarding its weed abatement policy and IPM history. The City Council appointed an IPM Task Force in 1997 to explore and recommend a program that can be developed which would provide community-wide IPM education and outreach. The IPM Task Force report was published in January 1998.
