Mint Industry Research Council
(PESP Partner since June 1995)
The Mint Industry Research Council (MIRC) is a non-profit association representing the interests of the U.S. mint oil industry. The Council's mission is to fund, direct and coordinate the scientific research and programs needed to sustain and enhance the productivity of high quality mint. The MIRC's membership, which generates its support, includes over 600 mint farmers and their respective state organizations, mint oil buyers, and major manufacturers who make consumer products which utilize mint oil for flavoring.
The MIRC is led by a Board of
Directors, which is responsible for planning, administration, and overall
strategic direction of the MIRC. A number of special committees,
comprised of experts from across MIRC's membership, address specific
areas of activity such as varietal improvement, integrated pest management,
and other scientific affairs. All board and committee members contribute
their time on a voluntary basis. The MIRC's sole full-time employee,
its Executive Director, is responsible for executing and administering
its programs.
