Crooked River Weed Management Area's 2005 Strategy
Strategic Approach
The Crooked River Weed Management Area works with landowners in the Crooked River watershed in Central Oregon to identify and control noxious weeds. This includes educational activities that teach landowners and the general public about noxious weeds, prevention, early detection and restoration methods.
Activities for the Coming Year
Activity 1
Landowner Weed ID Workshop
How does this activity reduce pesticide risk?
Teaches landowners noxious weed species identification, prevention, treatment methods (manual, mechancial, chemical, etc.) and restoration methods, and to identify areas at risk of infestation. By identifying weed sites early, there is less need for herbicide treatments. Landowners have the knowledge to choose other methods such as handpulling or mowing.
How will you measure the risk reduction gained from this activity?
Number of attendees
Activity 2
Noxious Weed Inventory
How does this activity reduce pesticide risk?
Early identification of noxious weeds, and areas at risk of infestations, lessens the use of herbicides
How will you measure the risk reduction gained from this activity?
Number of landowners, and acres inventoried
Activity 3
Cost-Share Program- Restoration activities
How does this activity reduce pesticide risk?
Grant funds help landowners to restore noxious weed sites with competitive species, reducing reinfestation and the use of herbicides.
How will you measure the risk reduction gained from this activity?
Number of acres restored.
