Pesticide News Story: EPA Seeking Comments on Draft Harmonized Product Performance Test Guidelines for Public Health Uses of Antimicrobial Pesticide Products
For Release: September 16, 2011
EPA has issued a Federal Register Notice of Availability seeking public comment on three draft test guidelines for the Series 810 – Product Performance Test Guidelines for Public Health Uses of Antimicrobial Agents. These test guidelines represent an Agency effort to harmonize the test guidelines within the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP), as well as to harmonize the OCSPP test guidelines with those of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The process for developing and amending the test guidelines, which began in 1991, includes public participation and extensive involvement of the scientific community.
The three draft guidelines are:
- OCSPP 810.2400 - Disinfectants and Sanitizers for Use on Fabrics and Textiles – Efficacy Data Recommendations;
- OSCPP 810.2500 – Air Sanitizers - Efficacy Data Recommendations; and
- OSCPP 810.2600 - Disinfectants for Use in Water—Efficacy Data Recommendations.
Companies seeking to register a pesticide must submit studies to EPA that satisfy the data requirements of the pesticide statute (Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act). EPA recommends that companies follow the Harmonized Test Guidelines because they provide helpful guidance about conducting the studies.
Public comments on these draft guidelines will be accepted until December 14, 2011. The Federal Register Notice of this action was published on September 15, 2011, and is available along with the draft guidelines at www.regulations.gov in docket number EPA-HQ-OPP-2009-0681.
