Pesticide News Story: Pesticide Label Review Manual Chapters 8 and 9 Updated
For Release: October 19, 2012
The EPA’s Pesticide Program has posted newly edited versions of Chapters 8 and 9 of its online Label Review Manual. Chapter 8 covers environmental hazards and provides the precautionary language informing users of the potential hazards to the environment from transport, use, storage or spill of the product. Chapter 9 deals with physical or chemical hazard statements that address flammability, explosive potential and precautions, as well as special hazard statements that are required for certain fumigants. The edits are based on over 730 comments on the LRM collected over a two-year period that ended in July 2012. The EPA solicited comments on the LRM from all interested parties through the Enable the Label discussion forum. The updates are editorial in nature, meant to improve the clarity and usefulness of the manual for its users, and establish no new policies. In some cases, obsolete references have been removed and replaced by updated guidance based on more recent rules or other policy documents. Several additional updated chapters should be posted in the near future.
