STATUS OF REVISION OF STAFF PAPER #7:
EPA'S RISK ASSESSMENT PROCESS FOR TOLERANCE REASSESSMENT
The paper titled EPA's Risk Assessment Process for Tolerance Reassessment will be revised over the next two months. We have heard a wide range of comments on the draft that was presented at the June workgroup and TRAC meetings. Some reviewers would like to see a much simpler version, while others want it to include even more technical detail on the risk assessment process. In addition, we have received some specific comments on the current version, from the American Water Works Association and from the Pest Management Regulatory Agency of Canada.
Our current course of action will be to modify the paper to incorporate the comments we have received, while we consider design and development options for later versions. We see the greatest need being for the simple version of the paper, so we plan to develop it first. One of the options we are considering is to include some more detailed information in this paper, for example in sidebars. Other technical resources and guidance documents exist that together provide information for the risk assessment professional on what EPA's approach and practices are. We will at a later point consider developing a descriptive, summary version incorporating material from those sources or referring to them as appropriate.
