Highlights

June 17, 2009 -- Information on possible aquatic and sediment toxicity testing for nonylphenol (NP) and for certain short-chain nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), which are widely used in detergents, and information and proposals for obtaining data on exposure of NPEs to industrial laundry workers is being requested by EPA in an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM). November 25, 2008 -- EPA issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) on formaldehyde emissions from pressed wood products to investigate whether and what type of regulatory or other action might be appropriate to protect against risks posed by formaldehyde emitted from pressed wood products.

The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) gives EPA authority to issue data development regulations that require manufacturers and processors of existing chemicals to test their chemicals for health and environmental effects.

EPA has broad authority under the law to issue: TSCA also requires EPA to develop regulations that establish import/export requirements for chemicals which are subject to certain requirements under TSCA.
