EPA Agreement Requires Siloxane Environmental Testing Data from Chemical Manufacturers

April 3, 2014 - EPA has entered into an Enforceable Consent Agreement with five manufacturers of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), which is widely used as a chemical intermediate and component of personal care products. Learn more. Read the Federal Register notice.

The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) gives EPA authority to issue data development regulations that require manufacturers and processors of existing chemicals to test their chemicals for health and environmental effects.

EPA has broad authority under the law to issue: TSCA also requires EPA to develop regulations that establish import/export requirements for chemicals which are subject to certain requirements under TSCA.
