May 24, 2012 -- EPA will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 to negotiate an Enforceable Consent Agreement (ECA) to collect data on high production volume chemicals D4 and D5 siloxanes. Interested parties must notify the Agency prior to the meeting in order to participate. Learn more.
May 14, 2012 -- EPA partially withdrew a direct final rule issued last March revoking certain test requirements for 10 chemicals. Because EPA received an adverse comment regarding one of the 10 chemicals, C.I. Pigment Blue 61, it has withdrawn and is re-proposing the revocation for C.I. Pigment Blue 61. The comment period for the proposed rule will be open until June 13, 2012. This action does not affect the revocation of test requirements for the other nine chemicals that were subject to the direct final rule issued last March.
April 13, 2012 -- To increase transparency and streamline reporting, EPA proposed a rule to require electronic reporting (55 p., 192 kb.) About PDF)of certain information submitted to the Agency under TSCA. Learn more. Read the press release.
March 16, 2012 -- EPA has issued a direct final rule revoking some or all of the testing that had been required for 10 chemicals under the first High Production Volume Test Rule. Read more.
January 17, 2012 - TSCA Section 4 and related 12(b) Sunset Table updated.
EPA has broad authority under the law to issue:
- Information collection regulations that require the submission of health and safety studies which are known or available to those who manufacture, process, or distribute in commerce specified chemicals; and
- Regulations designed to gather information from manufacturers and processors about production/import volumes, chemical uses and methods of disposal, and the extent to which people and the environment are exposed.
