Nhan Nguyen,  CEB Branch Chief Nhan joined EPA in 1989, and was named Chief of EPA’s Chemical Engineering Branch (CEB) in 1997. He has performed numerous risk assessments of chemicals and has been initiator and catalyst of the Green Engineering program. Nhan worked for Monsanto and Vista Chemical before joining EPA. He was a process and project engineer, as well as a shift supervisor. His industrial experience included chlorobenzenes, chlorinated disinfectants, and linear alkyl benzenes. Nhan received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Catholic University of America in 1983 and 1985, respectively. nguyen.nhan@epa.gov

Fred Arnold Fred joined EPA in 1994. Previously, he was an engineer at Westinghouse and an Assistant Professor of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. Fred is a licensed P.E., received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, his MBA from College of St. Thomas, and is studying law at George Mason University. arnold.fred@epa.gov

Sharon Austin Sharon joined EPA in 1997. Sharon has ten years experience as a process engineer in the pulp and paper industry. She has expertise in water treatment, water reuse, and quality control. Sharon also specializes in technical marketing and implementation of new products and programs. John Blouin John joined EPA in 1997 after 29 years of industrial experience in the chemical process industry. He’s experienced in the design, construction and operation of pilot plants and new manufacturing processes for production of new catalysts and organic, inorganic, biochemical and biomedical chemical. Jennifer Faraci Jennifer joined EPA in September 2000. Previously, she worked for four years with OccuHealth, Inc. as an Industrial Hygienist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. She received an MPH in Environmental Health Sciences and Industrial Hygiene from the University of California at Berkeley in 1996, and completed an internship with FMC Corporation in their Agricultural Products Group during the summers of 1995 and 1996. Franklyn Hall Franklyn joined EPA in 1995.  Previously he interned with Chevron Chemical Company as a contract manufacturing engineer and a process engineer.  Franklyn graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering from Howard University in 1993.  He is currently studying for his masters in Environmental Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. hall.franklyn@epa.gov

Eric Jackson Eric has been with EPA since 1987.  He received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Howard University in 1982.   Eric worked for Marathon Oil and Standard Oil (Ohio) as a process engineer and operation specialist before joining EPA.  His industrial experience includes computer modeling of refinery, pipeline scheduling, gasoline and lube oil blending. jackson.eric@epa.gov

Catherine Joseph Catherine joined CEB in August 2000. She has been at EPA in the Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) since 1998 under an Intergovernmental Personnel Act agreement with Georgia Tech. While in the OPP she prepared occupational and total human health risk assessments. At Georgia Tech she performed 300 industrial hygiene (IH) consultation visits and conducted IH training and research in the application of real-time sensors in chemical exposure monitoring. Catherine holds a MSPH in Industrial Hygiene from the University of North Carolina and a B.S. in Chemistry from Kalamazoo College. joseph.catherine@epa.gov

Greg Macek Greg is a long-time member of CEB, joining the branch in 1985.  Greg holds a BS degree in chemical engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he participated in the co-op program and had the opportunity to work at three different DuPont facilities. macek.greg@epa.gov

Scott Prothero Scott joined EPA’s Chemical Engineering Branch in 1990. He worked for four years as process engineer in Monsanto Chemical Company’s chlorobenzenes and nitroanalines departments before joining EPA. Daniel Fort Dan joined EPA in 1990. He has over 20 years of experience in a variety of engineering and public policy challenges at EPA as well as the petroleum industry. Dan's fields of expertise include catalysis, product development and marketing, regulatory policy/guidance and design/programming of web-based distance learning courses. Al Engel Al, a participant in the Senior Environmental Employment program, has worked in association with EPA since 1992. He has developed several models for the Chemical Engineering branch, including dispersions of fine particulates and vaporization of mixed solvents. Al worked for Chevron and taught chemical engineering at Penn State University for thirty years. His research included catalysis and unsteady-state operations. Al received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Cornell and the University of Wisconsin, respectively. aje@psu.edu
