Engineering Education Workshop: Incorporating Green Engineering and

held Sunday, November 7, in conjunction with the AIChE annual fall meeting
in Salt Lake City. This course provides engineering educators with updated
green engineering and
sustainable engineering content for use in undergraduate and graduate
courses.

The purpose of the conference was to foster sustainable business practices
in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands among the manufacturing and

prevention tools, projects, and practices, the conference sponsors hope
to drive for the improved environmental performance and economic vitality
of participating companies. The conference included a presentation by

Resource Conservation Challenge (RCC) 2009 Workshop
Arlington, Virginia
The RCC training workshop offered a dialogue between EPA, local governments
and tribes, and industry to expand, support, and enhance the core concepts
of EPA's Resource Conservation Challenge Programs. A breakout session
entitled "Finding Treasure in Hazardous Secondary Materials"
explored hazardous secondary materials recycling and how to increase
recovery and reuse of the value in these materials.

This video conference was a continuation of the discussion begun in
January 2008 about opportunities to reduce waste streams through solvent
recovery and commercialization for reuse of solvents by third parties.
Participants included stakeholders in Puerto Rico (including representatives
from the pharmaceutical industry, academia, and government), EPA (HQ,
Region 2, and Region 3) and FDA employees, as well as stakeholders from
EPA Regions 2 and 3.

key elements as fundamental and market-driven R&D, the road to innovation,

More than 50 people attended the first statewide green engineering educators
workshop. Cosponsored by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection
(FDEP), EPA Region 4, the University of Florida, and EPA’s Green
Engineering program, this workshop presented information on how to incorporate
green engineering concepts into course curricula.

my students and use myself. I have used some of it when doing presentations
and lectures in different countries in South America. The experience
was great. I hope they will consider coming back to Gainesville again.”

Engineering Conferences International (ECI), a not-for-profit partnership
between the Engineering Conferences Foundation and Polytechnic University,
has teamed with technical co-sponsor American Society of Chemical Engineers,
to bring a weeklong research conference on the definition of underlying
principles for Green Engineering. The goal of the conference was to
establish a set of Green Engineering Principles that can serve to guide
engineers in the design of products and processes within the constraints
placed on them by business and society, such as safety and cost requirements.

P2 Framework/PBT Profiler Workshop
Denver, Colorado
EPA's Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) developed computer-based
methods that derive important risk assessment information based on chemical
structure and other factors. These methods provide information on physical/chemical
properties, environmental fate, potential carcinogenicity, and toxicity
to aquatic organisms, worker and general population exposures, among
other data. The P2 Framework/PBT Profiler Workshop demonstrated the
use of several risk assessment models using personal computers.

Held in conjunction with the Process Industries Exposition (including
Petrochem Expo), this industry meeting offered 10 comprehensive topical
conferences, Sunday short courses and workshops, new complimentary "show
floor sessions," AIChE's 53rd Career Fair, and extraordinary networking
opportunities. Participants previewed draft chapters from the forthcoming
textbook Green Engineering: Environmentally Conscious Design of
Chemical Processes.
2000
ASEE Chemical Engineering Division hosted academic workshops to convey
green engineering concepts and to demonstrate green engineering tools
and models.
Forty-eight 'student' professors represented 35 schools from across
the nation. Disciplines in addition to Chemical Engineering included
Biomedical Engineering, Social Sciences, Civil and Environmental Engineering,
Petroleum Engineering, and Bioresource Engineering.
