Promoting Greener Public Purchasing - Working with OECD: Because the consumption generated and controlled by the activities of public administrations is very considerable, their environmental effects are also very relevant. So it is not surprising that across the OECD member countries, citizens are intensifying their demand that administrations adopt an overall greener approach. Among OECD countries, government consumption of products and services stands at 5 to 15 percent of total Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Increasingly, environmental policy-makers aim at implementing greener public purchasing to achieve sustainable production and consumption. Incorporating these priorities within existing tendering practices raises a number of challenges. For more information, visit the OECD web site. Exit Disclaimer
