Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) for modified Saccharomyces cerevisiae, J-13-0007
On March 13, 2013, the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) received a Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) from a company whose name is claimed confidential submitted under the biotechnology regulations promulgated under the Toxic Substances Control Act (62 FR 17910 (April 11, 1997); codified at 40 C.F.R. Part 725). The MCAN was given the EPA tracking designation J-13-0007. The recipient microorganism is a Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain which was modified to produce the new microorganism. The generic name for the new microorganism is modified S. cerevisiae. S. cerevisiae is commonly known as baker's yeast or brewer's yeast. This microorganism will be used in fuel ethanol production.
