Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) for Saccharomyces cerevisiae modified, J-14-0003 through J-14-0006

On December 2, 2013, the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) received a Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) from DSM Nutritional Products, Inc. submitted under the biotechnology regulations promulgated under the Toxic Substances Control Act (62 FR 17910 (April 11, 1997); codified at 40 C.F.R. Part 725). The consolidated MCANs were given the EPA tracking designations J-14-0003, J-14-0004, J-14-0005, and J-14-0006. The recipient microorganism is a Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain which was modified to produce the new microorganism. The generic name for the new microorganism is S. cerevisiae modified. S. cerevisiae is commonly known as baker’s yeast or brewer’s yeast. This microorganism will be used in ethanol production.
