Identification of Chemicals

The fluoroalkenes are those compounds having the general formula CnH(2n-x)Fx. This notice covers six chemicals which belong to this class (Attachment A for a list of category members, their CAS registry numbers, and acronyms). Only four fluoralkenes appear in the FRM, namely, VF, VDF, TFE, and HFP.

Announced Receipt of Test Data

Du Pont submitted CHO/HGPRT mutagenicity study on HFP (51 FR 16203; May 1, 1986).

Pennwalt/Du Pont submitted a subchronic inhalation toxicity test for VDF (rat) (51 FR 27598; August 1, 1986).

Du Pont submitted a CHO/HGPRT mutagenicity assay for TFE and HFP (53 FR 19334; May 27 1988).

Du Pont submitted results of the mouse micronucleus mutagenicity test using TFE (53 FR 20685; June 6, 1988).

Du Pont and Pennwalt submitted test data for a sex-linked recessive lethal test in Drosophila melanogaster for VF and VDF, respectively (53 FR 33537; August 31, 1988).

Du Pont submitted an addendum to the CHO/HPRT mutagenicity test using HFP (53 FR 37643; September 27, 1988).

Du Pont submitted results of a dominant lethal mutation study (rats) for VF (53 FR 43267; October 26, 1988) and HFP (53 FR 45385; November 9, 1988).

Pennwalt Corp. submitted an assessment of clastogenic action on bone marrow erythrocytes in the micronucleus test with VDF (53 FR 49227; December 6, 1988).

Inhalation subchronic toxicity data (rats and mice) was received from Du Pont for HFP (54 FR 8816; March 2, 1989) and VDF (mice) (54 FR 12953; March 29, 1989).

CMI submitted a test describing unscheduled DNA synthesis in rat spermatocytes following exposure to VF (56 FR 2178; January 22, 1991).

A CMA submission described the detection of damage to rat testicular DNA by alkaline elution following inhalation exposure to VF (56 FR 16333; April 22, 1991).

CMA submitted long-term inhalation oncogenicity studies in rats and mice exposed to VF (57 FR 37541; August 19, 1992).
