Policy and Guidance
Since the initial TSCA Inventory was compiled in 1979, EPA has developed numerous policy statements and guidance documents on how to identify certain chemical substances for the purpose of assigning unique and unambiguous descriptions for each substance listed on the Inventory. These include:
- Polymeric Substances (18 pp, 33K, about PDF)
- Certain Chemical Substances Containing Varying Carbon Chain Lengths (Alkyl Ranges Using the Cx-y Notation) (13 pp, 26K, about PDF)
- Combinations of Two or More Substances: Complex Reaction Products (12 pp, 26K, about PDF)
- Products Containing Two or More Substances, Formulated and Statutory Mixtures (9 pp, 19K, about PDF)
- Chemical Substances of Unknown or Variable Composition, Complex Reaction Products and Biological Materials (UVCB Substance) (8 pp, 18K, about PDF)
Additionally, instructions for developing generic names for use in PMN submissions are found in TSCA Inventory, 1985 Edition, Appendix B: "Generic Names for Confidential Chemical Substance Identities" (PDF) (5 pp, 952K, about PDF).
